Why Cold Process?
Why Cold Process Soap Changes Everything
Okay, real talk — most of what's sitting on drugstore shelves isn't actually soap. It's a detergent bar. And once I learned that, I couldn't un-know it. Those bars are packed with synthetic surfactants, artificial fragrances, and preservatives that strip your skin of its natural oils and leave it feeling tight and dry. That's what sent me down the cold process rabbit hole — and honestly, I've never looked back.
Let's Talk About Price
At $10 a bar, I know what you might be thinking — and yes, you can absolutely head to Costco and grab a bulk pack of soap for $20. But here's the thing: what you're buying there is a detergent. And if that's your jam, I genuinely support you in your journey — you do you. Every choice we make for our skin is personal, and there's no wrong answer.
If you're like me — someone who loves quality ingredients, craves a little luxury, and lives for that feeling of a real cold process soap gliding across your skin with those silky, creamy bubbles — then that's exactly what I'm offering. No low-quality oil fillers. No shortcuts. Just an amazing experience in your shower, made with intention, every single batch.
$10 for that? Honestly, it's a steal.
So Why Is Cold Process the Gold Standard?
Cold process soapmaking is a traditional craft that combines skin-loving oils with lye through a natural chemical reaction called saponification. What makes it so special:
- No extreme heat involved — which means every ingredient stays intact, keeping all those skin-loving nutrients right where they belong. Hard butters are gently warmed through the double boiler to keep their integrity intact.
- Natural glycerin stays in the bar — here's something most people don't know: glycerin is a natural byproduct of soapmaking. Big commercial brands actually extract it to sell separately. In cold process soap, it stays in the bar — and your skin feels the difference.
- It cures for 4–6 weeks — patience is part of the process. That curing time is what gives you a hard, long-lasting bar with a mild, creamy lather.
- Every ingredient is intentional — nothing goes into my bars without a reason. No fillers, no shortcuts.
The Oils and Ingredients Behind Every Bar (and Why They Matter)
The oil blend is everything. Here's what I put into every bar and what it does for your skin:
- Olive Oil — the go-to for moisture. It's been used on skin for centuries for good reason — rich in antioxidants and oleic acid, it creates a creamy, conditioning lather that's gentle enough for even sensitive skin.
- Coconut Oil — the workhorse. It gives the bar its bubbly lather and hardness. I actually spent a lot of time testing different percentages of coconut oil to find the sweet spot — enough to give you that satisfying, bubbly clean without leaving your skin feeling stripped. That balance matters, and it took some batches to get it just right.
- Avocado Oil — deeply nourishing and rich in vitamins A, D, and E, avocado oil is a powerhouse for dry or mature skin. It absorbs beautifully and adds a luxurious, creamy quality to the lather.
- Rice Bran Oil — a skin-brightening gem packed with antioxidants and vitamin E. It's lightweight, absorbs quickly, and helps protect and soften skin while contributing to a smooth, conditioning lather.
- Shea Butter — pure luxury. Loaded with vitamins A and E, it's deeply nourishing and leaves skin feeling soft and smooth. It's what gives my bars that silky, skin-loving quality.
- Castor Oil — a little goes a long way. It boosts lather, adds those satisfying big bubbles.
- Sweet Almond Oil — lightweight and easily absorbed, sweet almond oil is rich in vitamins and fatty acids that soften and smooth skin without feeling greasy.
- Kaolin Clay — a gentle, skin-loving clay that does double duty in cold process soap. It gives the bar a beautifully silky feel on the skin, and it acts as a natural fragrance anchor that helps the fragrance bind to the bar so the scent actually lasts.
- Sodium Lactate — a natural salt derived from the fermentation of sugars that works as a skin-conditioning humectant. In cold process soapmaking, it helps the bars release from the mold faster and contributes to a harder, longer-lasting bar right out of the gate.
Fragrances You Can Trust
I take fragrance sourcing seriously — because what goes on your skin matters. Every scent I use comes from reputable suppliers I trust completely: Bramble Berry, Nurture Handmade, and P&J Trading. These suppliers rigorously test their fragrance oils for skin safety and soap performance, so you can lather up with confidence knowing what's on your skin has been vetted.
No mystery ingredients. No synthetic fragrance cocktails sourced from unknown suppliers. Just beautifully crafted scents that have been tested and trusted by the handcrafted soap community.
Try It Once. You Might Never Go Back.
I know that sounds dramatic — but I hear it all the time. Once people feel the difference that real, handcrafted cold process soap makes, it's hard to go back to the commercial stuff. Softer skin, less dryness, a shower that actually feels like a moment of self-care instead of just a chore.
Cold process soap works with your skin. The glycerin softens. The oils nourish. The scent is real and intentional — not a chemical cover-up. It's a small swap that makes a big difference, and I genuinely believe once you try it, you'll feel it too.
Welcome to the good stuff. Your skin is going to love it.
